About TAPWAK

The Association of People with AIDS in Kenya (TAPWAK) is a non-governmental not-for-profit organisation which was founded in July 1990 to address the health problems of people living with HIV & AIDS (PLHIV), and to provide a forum for them to give each other support and encouragement. TAPWAK was registered under the NGOs Coordination Act in September 1992 and was formally launched in Nairobi on 1st December1992. A branch office was opened at Ugunja, in Siaya District in 1998.

The Purpose and Identity of TAPWAK

The strategies and activities developed herein are formed by TAPWAK’s stated purpose and identity as promulgated in the statements that are reproduced below:

 

Vision

TAPWAK envisages a Kenyan society where there are no new HIV & AIDS infections and where those infected or affected lead quality lives free of stigmatisation and discrimination.

 

Mission Statement

TAPWAK exists to support people living with HIV & AIDS and the affected in Kenya through effective education and advocacy as well as provision of emotional, social, economic and medical support.

 

 Guiding Principles

  •         TAPWAK believes in a just and compassionate society in which all affected and infected by  HIV & AIDS lead quality lives without discrimination or stigmatisation.

  •         TAPWAK believes in being an accountable and transparent organization.

  •         We believe that all were created equal and that all should have fair and equal opportunities irrespective of gender.

  •         TAPWAK shall continuously strive to improve the quality of its services.

  •         TAPWAK believes in the full participation of stakeholders in order to ensure that its programmes are relevant, owned, effective and sustainable.

  •         All our activities shall be conducted in a manner that complies with the laws of the land.

  •         Members of the board as well as staff shall at all times avoid situations in which their personal interests conflict with their duties and responsibilities to the organization.

  •         Our programmes and relationships shall be conducted in accordance to the highest ethical standards.
